The Cecil Lindsey site consists of 5.2 acres, located in rural northeastern Arkansas, approximately 3.5 miles northeast of the city of Newport. Cecil Lindsey accepted waste for salvage and/or disposal from the early 1970s until 1980. The site was first used as a salvage operation, where machinery, automobiles, culvert pipe, and other scrap metal were collected. The southern portion of the site was formerly used to raise pigs and contains a fenced area, an open shed, and a sandpoint well. Later, the northern part of the site was used as a municipal dump by the community of Diaz. The results of the field investigation indicate the presence of very limited onsite soil and ground water contamination and offsite surface water and sediment contamination. |
