Abstract | The report was prompted by the terrible damage to the countryside in Saxony and the Harz mountains at the beginning of industrialization. The gaseous noxious substances, sulphur dioxide and hydrogen fluoride, were responsible for most of the damage, to the forests which was extensive. |
