Abstract | Experimental microcosms designed to simulate major physical, chemical and biological complexities of site specific, coastal marine ecosystems are described. Procedures are presented which enable the investigator to determine the fate, ecological effects and transport for 'new' and 'existing' chemicals. Experimental designs are recommended to ensure valid testing of various dose-response relationships. In addition, certain criteria and conditions are identified as critical to environmental assessment of toxic chemicals. |
