Abstract |
The focus of this research centers on strategies to control both mean solids retention time (MSRT) and food to microorganism ratio (F/M). Two solids inventory control strategies were examined: (1) control of the recycle flow rate when provision has been made for a fixed volume storage chamber; and (2) control of the recycle flow rate when provision has been made for a variable volume storage chamber. Both strategies were evaluated by simulation using a structured model. The first strategy was also evaluated through a pilot study conducted at the Blue Plains Pilot Waste Treatment Facility. |
