Abstract | Using information and data obtained for an update of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's guidance document on dewatering municipal wastewater sludges, a sequential review is made of key considerations in selecting an optimum process. Included in the discussion are the principal mechanical dewatering devices now being applied: continuous belt filter presses, solid bowl centrifuges and recessed plate filter presses; their simplicity of operation and their major operational variables. Performance capabilities are also considered and compared with those of other dewatering methods. |
