Abstract |
A baseline study was initiated in May 1976 to document the distribution, abundance and biomass of nearshore fishes along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, to determine their food habits, and to identify the macroinvertebrates collected incidentally with the fish. A total of 93 species of fish was collected from May 1976 to June 1978. Trends in occurrence, abundance, and biomass for individual species were fairly consistent between 1976-77 and 1977-78. Species richness generally increased from west to east in beach seine and townet collections; the opposite trend was observed in tidepool collections. Species richness was highest in summer and fall collections and lowest in winter collections. |
