Abstract |
A rapid test procedure for the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase was developed for the detection of Escherichia coli. The assay procedure was able to confirm the presence of E. coli in enteric broth cultures with a 95 percent specificity for both pure cultures and environmental samples. The procedure was capable of detecting survivors of chlorine exposed cells and was comparable to EC-MUG medium in the multiple tube fermentation procedure. |
