Abstract |
In the study, the authors used a zero headspace extractor (ZHE) vessel to measure the soil sorption partition coefficients (K(sub p)) for a mixture of 16 volatile and semivolatile organic compounds commonly present at hazardous waste sites. The sorption partition coefficients were compared with sorption data predicted from the n-octanol/water partition coefficient (K(sub ow)) of each compound. The findings provide a basis for extrapolation of sorption data for individual compounds to mixtures of compounds with high vapor pressures. In addition, the potential utility of a ZHE for soil sorption measurements of volatile compounds is demonstrated. (Copyright (c) 1992, ASA, CSSA, SSSA.) |
