Abstract |
The report provides an update on the status of the genetic activity profile (GAP) data base which now consists of more than 400 chemicals. The data base is available in a personal computer software package which is described in the report. The report also describes several of the ways in which the data base and associated methodology are currently being utilized by international and U.S. governmental agencies and by industry. These include: (1) Evaluation of genetic and related effects of suspected human carcinogens, (2) Comparative evaluation of genetic activity profiles using computer-based profile matching techniques, (3) Testing and evaluation of complex mixtures, and (4) Weight-of-evidence ranking schemes. The fundamental techniques and computer programs devised for the GAP data base may be used to develop similar data bases in genetic toxicology and in other disciplines. |
