Abstract | In this report, the findings of the Pollution Prevention Opportunity Assessment of the United States Postal Service, Stamp Distribution Network (SDN), located in Kansas City, Missouri are described. This report describes the mission of each of the functional areas of the SDN including operations performed, processes and materials employed and the wastes and emissions generated. Recommendations are then made concerning the procurement of office supplies, maintenance supplies and hazardous materials; management of hazardous materials; purchase of chemicals on EPA's 33/50 lists; improvement of source separation and recycling of paper and paper products, metals, and plastics; management of unwanted equipment; and other recommendations that can lead to the elimination, reduction or improved management of the facility's solid hazardous waste streams and emissions to air and water. |
