Abstract |
The proceedings document the 30 presentations made during the symposium. The objective was to present the current status of flue gas desulfurization technology for full-scale power plants, the only near-term alternative to the use of low-sulfur fuels in meeting air quality standards. It emphasized lime/limestone scrubbing, magnesia scrubbing, sodium-based scrubbing with thermal regeneration, and catalytic oxidation. Disposal and uses of SOx control process by-products and the second-generation or advanced SOx control processes were also discussed. The symposium filled the need for up-to-date information in support of federal, state, and local air pollution control activities. |
