Abstract
The results of an intensive water quality survey in Lake Milner, Idaho, were used to demonstrate the validity of a steady state mathematical model for dissolved oxygen. Major sources of oxygen demand included organic wastes from municipal and industrial waste sources, surface transfer of oxygen, in-stream biological oxygen demand, sediment oxygen demand, and the respiration of algae. The mathematical model simulated the mean observed dissolved oxygen with a maximum difference of 0.2 mg/l between the mean observed and simulated D.O. This model has been used to define limitations on the discharge of organic wastes to Lake Milner.
