| Abstract |
Three types of automatic recording current meters were evaluated in the study of currents in Lake Michigan. The Woods Hole meter was selected because of the established performance record of its internal components, type of data collected and lower costs. The test data were examined to determine the reliability and sensitivity of meters for measuring both speed and direction. The median values for speed and direction were examined for random fluctuations and the 95 percent confidence limits indicate the instruments had a sufficient degree of precision. The data tabulated for May to July 1962, show that under certain conditions an effluent could move, at low speed with relatively little mixing, for over four days. |
