Abstract

A sampling program was undertaken to evaluate the releases of uranium concentrate from uranium mills. This concentrate, known as yellowcake, is the final product of the mill. It is routinely released to the environment through stacks which exhaust air from both the yellowcake drying and packaging operations. During this study, samples were taken in these stacks at six mills to evaluate the total yellowcake emission rates. This paper describes the sampling and analytical methods used, and presents the results obtained.
