Abstract | The paper identifies the basic site assessment information required to define and understand the release incident and the organic chemicals released in the subsurface environment. It evaluates various remediation technologies, based on the characteristics of concerned pollutants and site geologic properties, that may be applicable to cleaning up organic chemicals from surface spills or leaking underground storage tanks. A systematic discussion of organic chemicals transport in subsurface environment enables the user to: develop a conceptual understanding of site conditions before initiation of extensive field investigation, define remediation goals, evaluate technologies capable of meeting remediation goals, and identify monitoring requirements during and after remediation. |
