Abstract |
The North Atlantic Water Quality Management Center undertook an investigation to evaluate the operation of the Carlson, C-Chlor, Mark 10, macerator-chlorinator unit installed aboard U. S. Coast Guard vessels in the New York area. The treatment facilities were installed by the Coast Guard in accordance with a schedule agreed upon by FWPCA. The investigating program, which was dependent upon vessel availability, was designed to: Test the units under actual operating conditions, specially during maximum use periods when detention time in the macerator would be at a minimum; Determine the mechanical reliability of the treatment device; Ascertain the degree of treatment provided and the effectiveness of the system in reducing pollution. |
