| Abstract |
Representatives from the nuclear medical community, industry, and governmental agencies attended a 3-day symposium, August 7-9, 1967, cosponsored by the National Center for Radiological Health and Michigan State University. Formal presentations, discussion sessions, and work-group reports are included in the proceedings. Representatives of the Atomic Energy Commission and the National Center for Radiological Health defined the roles of these agencies in nuclear medicine. Professionals in the field of nuclear medicine presented the progress to date in the problem areas of internal radiation dosimetry, short half-lived radionuclides, instrumentation, radiopharmaceutical quality control, and manpower development. The work-group reports contain the conclusions resulting from a full day of work-group activity. The participants evaluated the need for reducing radiation exposure from nuclear medical procedures, formulated means that might be employed to use most efficiently the administered amount of radiopharmaceutical, and concluded possible solutions to problem areas in nuclear medicine.
