Abstract |
The objective of the research described was to obtain a better understanding of factors that contribute to the corrosion of structural and energy recovery components in systems designed to incinerate municipal refuse. Specifically, the corrosion problems associated with the burning refuse containing high concentrations of polyvinyl chloride were evaluated for a variety of alloys having potential use in water-wall heat-recovery systems and in air pollution control devices. The effect of municipal refuse composition, particularly the PVC content, on the corrosion and metal wastage of alloys having potential use in fireside heat recovery systems and air pollution devices was investigated by inserting corrosion probes in the Miami County, Ohio Incinerator. |
