Abstract |
The report gives results of a study to qualitatively identify organic pollutants in the air inside new automobiles. In recent years, concern has developed over the concentration of organic vapors inside new automobiles. A literature search first identified numerous volatilization products from plastics used in the construction of automobile interiors. Charcoal tubes were used to collect air samples in seven test vehicles. Vinyl chloride monomer concentrations of 0.4 to 1.2 ppm were detected in two vehicles. The concentrations in the other five test vehicles during this preliminary study were below the detection limit of 0.05 ppm. |
