Abstract |
The paper discusses the development of analytical standards for the analysis The paper discusses the development of analytical standards for the analysis of organic compounds present in particulate matter with aerodynamic dia less than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5). The standards are designed to be implemented in a broad range of laboratories in a manner that quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) can be readily monitored and evaluated. Organic compounds present in PM2.5 is a possible factor contributing to the positive association between human exposure to PM2.5 and adverse health effects. Due to the increasing interest in such health effects studies, along with the interest in recently developed PM2.5 apportionment models that use organic compounds as tracers, there is an increasing demand for analytical laboratories to quantify such compounds present in atmospheric PM samples. Interlaboratory comparisons for the analysis of organic compounds are conducted to ensure quality data. |
