Abstract |
EPA studies related to the development and commercialization of oil shale are providing information on health and ecological effects from pollutants created by the extraction and processing of oil shale, and on technological methods that can be used to control the release of those pollutants. The program is also assessing the environmental impact of the use of the fuels refined from shale oil. This report provides the reader with an overview of current oil shale research and development (R & D) efforts being performed by EPA, or being funded by EPA monies passed-through to other Federal agencies under the five-year old 17-agence Interagency Energy/Environment R & D Program. It covers extraction and handling, processing, energy-related processes and effects, and overall assessments. Project title, sponsoring agency, performing organization, project duration, and project contact are given. |
