Abstract |
Low levels of poliovirus 1 were reported to have been isolated from 4 finished water samples collected by an EPA contractor from a water system that used conventional treatment including disinfection. The circumstances surrounding these virus isolations suggest that exogenous contamination of the samples may have occurred. This report discusses these circumstances and also recommends laboratory procedures that would minimize the risk of exogenous contamination of environmental virus samples. |
