Abstract | The Metamora Landfill site is located in Metamora Township, Lapeer County, MI. The 80-acre landfill was previously used for gravel mining and in 1966 as a privately owned, unregulated dump. The site accepted both municipal and industrial waste until its closure in 1980. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) sampled seven of these drums and identified the presence of VOCs, and other organics. Remedial actions for ground water, which poses a public health threat, and soil have not been addressed due to insufficient data detailed the extent of contamination. The primary contaminants of concern include: VOCs, PCE, TCE, and heavy metals. |
