Abstract
In conclusion, there is essentially no difference in the human sensory threshold level of vapor from acidic or alkaline glutaraldehyde. The human sensory irritation threshold of acidic or alkaline glutaraldehyde vapor is about 8 times less than the proposed ceiling limit value of 2 ppm for acidic glutaraldehyde, and about 5 times greater than the ceiling limit value of 0.05 ppm proposed for alkaline glutaraldehyde. These results indicate that the diserepancy in the proposed ceiling limit values for acidie and alkaline gluteraldehyde would not be justified on the basis of human sensory irritation thresholds.
