Abstract
This article offers several equipment cleaning strategies to minimize wastes and save money on maintenance and waste disposal. The article gives many methods for inspecting and cleaning equipment, and provides a list of simple methods that save money. Methods described to reduce or eliminate the need for cleaning focus on inhibiting fouling or formation of deposits, dedicating equipment to specific formulations and/or processes, sequencing production and avoiding unnecessary cleaning. Other factors related to pollution prevention include selection of cleaning media or techniques, use of chemical or mechanical processes, and substituting cleaning agents when possible to reduce the use of toxic chemicals.
