Abstract
This report describes a precipitation and clarification system available to small radiator repair shops. Four processes were developed to treat boil-out solutions and recover metal values. The most promising process was a holding tank precipitation process that was fully implemented at the Cloquet Radiator Repair in Minnesota. This process was chosen for two reasons: (1) to assist small sized radiator repair shops to reduce the amount of hazardous waste generated from caustic boil-out solutions and (2) to condition the resultant solutions into high quality synthetic lead concentrates for the secondary lead smelting industry. The process was developed using tools available to the small size radiator repair shop. An appendix to the report contains a manual for implementing waste reduction techniques in radiator repair operations.
