Abstract
The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, sediment, ground water and surface water are VOCs including benzene, toluene, PCE, and TCE; other organics including pesticides and explosives; and metals including arsenic, lead, and chromium. The selected remedial action for the site includes multi-layer capping of the disposal area and the acid pit area; ground water pumping and treatment using air stripping, carbon adsorption, or metal removal with treatment and discharge to be determined during design; sampling of pond water and sediment and if necessary, surface water treatment using the ground water treatment system and onsite disposal of sediments; implementation of institutional controls and access restrictions; and sediment, ground water, and surface water monitoring.
