Abstract
The management and disposal of industrial by-products and/or hazarodus waste is one of the most critical problem areas facing our society today. Recognizing the needs in this problem area, The University of Alabama has established a Hazardous Material Management and Resource Recovery (HAMMARR) Program. The major purpose of this program is to serve more effectively the needs of the people of the state, region, and nation by providing solutions to the problems associated with the management of industrial by-products and/or hazardous materials. The major focus of the Program is to develop low- or non-pollution technology systems based on the concept that preventing pollution pays. The overall goal of the Program is to ensure protection of our environment in a safe and cost-effective manner that, in turn, will foster an economic climate conducive to present and future industrial growth and development.
