Abstract |
The chapter discusses guidelines for the management of bronchopulmonary disease in the cat, based in part on extrapolations from the current therapeutic recommendations for asthma and chronic bronchitis in humans. Recommendations were modified according to known pharmacokinetic, clinicopathologic and pulmonary functional data in the cat. While of more clinical than experimental value to our program (which involves rodents and guinea pigs), the article emphasizes the homology between animals and humans in the pathophysiology of airway diseases and in approaches toward its prevention and/or treatment and hence, the relevance of animal research in the area. |
