Abstract | Seeded water treatment using a SALA high gradient magnetic separator pilot plant system was conducted on combined sewer overflows and raw sewage at SALA Magnetics in Cambridge, MA and at on-site locations in the Boston area. Special emphasis was placed on specific design and operational parameters, long term durability and maintenance problems, and system adaptability to integrated wet and dry weather flow conditions. The on-site results reported, although not equaling those obtained on uniform batch samples in house, were nevertheless good and proved that HGMF magnetic filters are effective on fresh CSO and raw sewage and that the magnetic filtration treatment system is easily adaptable to the dynamic solids loading and flow rate conditions typically associated with storm water and integrated wet and dry treatment systems. |
