Abstract
Public Policy staff in regulatory and/or policy-making positions are in an important position. They can influence waste generators in industry to adopt methods of environmental protection. The training manual outlines an exercise which can heighten public policy staffs' awareness of how waste is produced and how it can be reduced. At the same time, the exercise will provide participants with a sense of what it's like to work in an industrial setting and to use group problem solving techniques. The instructions in the manual show the exercise facilitator in a step-by-step fashion how to take a group through the Play-Doh Fun Factory exercise. The training manual also includes a principle of operation section explaining how we developed this exercise, what our basic ideas are behind the exercise, and how we expect participants will benefit from the exercise. We have also included a section defining participant roles, as well as a list of equipment and materials needed.
