A major goal of this document is to develop a resource guide for Tribes in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska that will be helpful to them in managing their natural environments. It includes general information that the Agency has compiled on important issues such as Tribal sovereignty and the application of Federal environmental law to Native Americans. It also describes national regulations dealing with air, land and water, and specifies the monitoring procedures necessary to ensure a healthy environment. Examples of present concerns addressed include sovereignty issues confronting Alaska Natives, Region 10's Tribal Environmental Agreements, and other Regional EPA programs that bring the Tribal Operations Office to the forefront in assisting Tribes to enhance and protect their environments.
