Abstract |
The proceedings are about drawing conclusions in environmental studies. The studies discussed involve air, water, ground water, and soil. They employ techniques from various statistical areas such as probability sampling, response surface analysis, optimal design of experiments, time series analysis, spatial prediction, power transformations, and the analysis of variance. The proceedings are intended for statisticians involved in the planning of environmental studies. The papers include: A statistical assessment of the effect of the Arizona car inspection/maintenance program on ambient CO air quality in Phoenix, Arizona; Sampling design: some very practical considerations; Spatial prediction and site selection; Spatial autocorrelation: implications for sampling and estimation; Sampling and modeling pollutant plumes: methods combining direct measurements and remote sensing data; 'Validation' of air pollution dispersion models; and Assessing effects on fluctuating populations: tests and diagnostics. |
