| Abstract | In July 1992, the Science Advisory Board (SAB) began an initiative, termed the Environmental Futures Project, to advise the Agency on ways to identify future environmental problems and provide the SAB's perspective on emerging environmental issues. The Environmental Engineering Committee (EEC), in response to the opportunity provided by the EFC, chose four issues related to engineering that may emerge in the future. The EEC developed the drivers, scenarios, consequences and recommendations for Agency actions related to each issue. The EEC also developed an approach by which EPA could regularly scan the horizon for future issues. This approach was used in part by the EEC to conduct a supplemental search for potential emerging issues. |
