Abstract
A verified dissolved oxygen model was used to project the effect of proposed wastewater discharges on the dissolved oxygen level of the Black River in New York State. The proposed wastewater discharges represent best practical control technology currently available for the industries and conventional secondary treatment for municipalities. The results indicate that for design low flow conditions New York State D.O. standards will be met. Historical water quality data were reviewed and a field program conducted to identify existing water quality problems in the Black River. A dissolved oxygen model was developed to define the relationship between wastewater discharges and river dissolved oxygen levels and to identify other factors that affect the dissolved oxygen concentration in the Black River.
