Abstract
Patch tests were conducted on fifty human subjects using the Shelanski method (Proceedings of the Toilet Goods Association, No. 19, May 1953) as modified. A square of the test material was applied to the arm of each test subject and held in place with adhesive tape. After 24 hours the patch was removed and the site examined for reactions after which the material was reapplied. Reap- plications were normally made to the same site unless a 2+ or greater reaction occurred. In this event a new site was chosen. Fifteen such primary applica- tions were made except in those cases where it was deemed clinically advisable to terminate the applications earlier. Following the primary applications a two week rest was permitted after which a challenge application was applied as before.
