Abstract |
The industrial organic chemical sector produces organic chemicals (those containing carbon) used as either chemical intermediates or end-products. This categorization corresponds to Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code 286 established by the Bureau of Census to track the flow of goods and services within the economy. The 286 category includes gum and wood chemicals (SIC 2861), cyclic organic crudes and intermediates, organic dyes and pigments (SIC 2865), and industrial organic chemicals not elsewhere classified (SIC 2869). The second section provides background information on the size, geographic distribution, employment, production, sales, and economic condition of the organic chemical industry. The type of facilities described within the document are also described in terms of their Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. Additionally, this section contains a list of the largest companies in terms of sales. |
