Abstract
The Rose Disposal Pit site occupies 1.5 acres in the northern section of a 14-acre residential lot located in Lanesborough, Massachusetts, approximately 4 miles north of Pittsfield. During the 1950s and possibly later, the General Electric Company disposed of waste oils and solvents in a trench on the site, now referred to as the disposal area. Field investigations conducted between 1981 and 1986 revealed high concentrations of PCBs in surface and subsurface soils and indicated the presence of VOCs in ground water. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, sediments, ground water, and surface water are VOCs including PCE, TCE, toluene, and xylenes, and other organics including PCBs. The selected remedial action for the site is included.
