Abstract |
A preliminary study was made of the chemical exchange capabilities of the Baton Rouge ground-water system. Such information is necessary to evaluate the potential of the system for the controlled modification of water quality. All available analyses of subsurface waters in the area were digitized, and a series of computer programs were written for the thermodynamic evaluation and classification of the waters. The work has shown that the aquifers constitute a dynamic system which has reacted and evolved in composition as water has been withdrawn. The 2400-foot aquifer may be particularly suited for the controlled modification of water quality because of its abundant intercalated clay lenses. (Author) |
