Abstract |
A wastewater treatment study was conducted to: Analyze the advantages and limitations associated with the use of computers in the management and control of wastewater treatment facilities; Document potential applications and utilization procedures; and Recommend further research to achieve full computer implementation of wastewater treatment operations and associated management functions. Current problems and procedures were surveyed, including site visits to plants already automated to some extent. In addition, manufacturers were queried as to the availability of the monitoring and controlling equipment needed. Results indicated that management is indeed interested in automatic controls and computer application, but that both will come about largely on a piecemeal basis. Computer hardware and communication equipment is available and is already being utilized in many instances, but many on-line sensing instruments are not available. |
