Abstract |
Research to demonstrate the feasibility of using rubber from discarded passenger car tires in water-thinnable emulsions of asphalt or coal tar for blacktop dressings for driveways, etc., was conducted. Nine different compositions containing from 5 to 25% rubber were applied to field test site. After one year of continuous exposure in a high traffic area, the performance of the experimental compositions appeared to be as good as control samples. No attempts at composition optimization were made but complete feasibility of the basic idea was successfully demonstrated. |
