Abstract
The study describes an assessment of the relative toxicity of a number of drilling muds slated for marine disposal on the coral Acropora cervicornis. The data do not suggest that a single toxic agent present in all the tested muds was responsible for the observed effects in A. cervicornis but rather that toxic agents vary considerably among the muds. For corals, a priori predictions of toxicity from chemical analysis remain an elusive goal. (Copyright (c) 1984 Springer-Verlag New York Inc.)
