| Abstract |
This report contains the results of studies conducted to determine the feasibility of multimaterial source separation (separation of solid waste by the homeowner into recyclable components - paper, glass, and cans - and nonrecyclable components) in the communities of Somerville and Marblehead, Massachusetts. The report is focused on the community awareness programs that were planned and implemented for each community. A detailed description is presented of the planning and implementation of the community awareness programs in the two target communities, with evaluations of each phase of the programs. A concise, general guide to planning and implementing such programs for other communities, based on the practical experience gained in Somerville and Marblehead is also provided. |
