Abstract |
The report, the fifth of five volumes, focuses on disposal of coal ash and FGD wastes which (together) comprise FGC wastes. The report assesses the various options for the disposal of FGC wastes with emphasis on disposal on land. A number of technical, economic, and regulatory factors appear to encourage increasing use of dry disposal methods. Regulatory considerations impacting FGC waste disposal are assessed. An assessment of the monitoring requirements from the viewpoints of regulation and environmental control is reported. Ongoing studies on the economics of FGC waste disposal are reported and assessed. Environmental impact issues concerning disposal options include physical stability, public policy and land use, and leachate mobility. |
