Abstract
The two-volume report describes the development of an indoor air quality simulator for personal computers (IAQPC), a program that addresses the problems of indoor air contamination. The program--systematic, user-friendly, and computer-based--can be used by administrators and engineers in developing control approaches to achieve acceptable concentrations of pollutants indoors. The technical manual introduces the IAQPC, provides the theoretical background of the program, and offers details of the algorithms. The manual should be useful to the experienced user and to those who are interested in the fundamentals of the program. The user's guide provides information on operation of the program. An extension of BASIC (QuickBASIC 4.0) was selected to accommodate the complexities of the indoor air space, maintain speed in calculations, and allow easy updates when new or improved data become available. Inputs to the program include indoor space, pollutant sources, sinks, and HVAC system descriptions. Locations and types of air cleaners may be specified. Output from the IAQPC includes printouts to screen, file, or printer of input values; calculated concentrations with respect to time and location; and graphical presentations of the concentrations.
