Abstract |
This report updates a 1975 study (EPA 68-01-2210 - Final Report NTIS PB 243-825) that reviewed and evaluated the present state of techniques which have been used to determine the environmental persistence and pathways of degradation of chemicals released into the environment. Both chemical and biological routes of degradation in the environment were considered. New developments since the 1975 report included validation and round-robin testing of biodegradation tests and the development of screening tests that did not require specific chemical analysis. Considerable progress was also made in understanding the mechanism and rates of some non-biological degradation processes. |
