Abstract
From a review of previous work on dispersion in porous media it is concluded that at present the tools for solving most practical problems of mixing of fluids in artificial recharge, waste water disposal and ground water contamination are still missing. A numerical method is proposed for the solution of dispersion problems in steady three-dimensional potential flow fields in porous media. The numerical scheme uses the convective dispersion equation in curvilinear coordinates consisting of the flow streamlines and equipotentials. By means of this equation any problem of dispersion in a steady three-dimensional potential flow fields in porous media. The numerical scheme uses the convective dispersion equation in curvilinear coordinates consisting of the flow streamlines and equipotentials. By means of this equation any problem of dispersion in a steady potential flow field, as well as a special type of problems with unsteady flow, can be solved. The numerical scheme is programmed for a computer and applied to a few simple cases, for which analytical solutions exist.
