Abstract |
The paper discusses results of experiments on a 73 kW (250,000 Btu/hr) rotary kiln incinerator simulator equipped with a prototype oxygen enrichment burner, to determine the effect of oxygen enrichment on the magnitude and intensity of transient puffs emitted during batch introduction of contained liquid surrogate waste (toluene) on corncob sorbent. Results show that the effect of oxygen enrichment at constant temperature is to decrease the size of the transient puff, but that increases in kiln temperature associated with oxygen enrichment can offset this and cause net increases in the transient emissions. The effect is likely due to increases in the rate of waste volatilization. These results were especially true for particulate matter and are consistent with previous results without oxygen enrichment. |
