Abstract |
Market prices for secondary materials are generally characterized by a high degree of variability and uncertainty. Futures markets may be an effective mechanism for stabilizing these prices, and encouraging recovery of secondary materials from solid waste. The desirability and feasibility of implementing futures markets for ferrous scrap and wastepaper were investigated and the results presented at a Symposium held in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 14-15, 1979. A handbook was prepared and distributed to the Symposium participants as a basis for the discussions. The essentials of the handbook and a summary of the comments by those attending are contained in the report. |
