Abstract | A set of guidelines for monitoring the biotic communities of small, freshwater wetlands is proposed to help standardize comparisons among reference, mitigated, and impacted wetlands. A bioassessment tool is needed to evaluate mitigation policies and assess the cumulative impacts on wetlands. Information about a wetland's functions and values can be inferred by sampling its vertebrate, invertebrate, and plant communities, and by characterizing its hydrology and morphometry. This information is needed to make regulatory and management decisions. |
